Tired looking skin and aging skin are not the same problem, and confusing them is why people buy an expensive firming cream when what they needed was water and a different cleanser. Dullness usually responds much faster than lines do.

What dull actually means
Skin looks radiant when its surface is smooth enough to reflect light evenly. When the surface is rough, dry or cluttered with dead cells, light scatters instead of bouncing back, and the result reads as dull, flat and tired. Nothing about that is permanent, and very little of it is about age.

The usual causes, in rough order
- Dehydration. The most common and the most fixable. Dehydrated skin is a water problem, not an oil problem, so oily skin gets it too.
- A damaged barrier. Usually self inflicted through over cleansing, hot water, or too many actives at once. The AAD’s dry skin guidance is the practical fix.
- Sun exposure. The single biggest driver of how aged skin looks over time. The AAD is blunt about what causes premature skin aging and sun sits at the top of the list.
- Sleep and stress. Real, but less controllable and often over blamed relative to the three above.
What helps fastest
In order of how quickly you will see a difference. First, stop stripping your skin: swap a squeaky clean cleanser for a mild one and use lukewarm water, following basic face washing guidance. Second, add a humectant and seal it, which is the hyaluronic acid step, and the damp skin trick matters more here than anywhere else. Third, wear sunscreen daily, applied in the quantity actually tested rather than the thin layer most people use.
Those three cost almost nothing and show up within a week or two. Everything else is a longer game.
The longer game
Once hydration and barrier are sorted and you are still looking at texture and fine lines, that is where supportive ingredients earn their place. Peptides sit on the gentle, slow and consistent end of that, which you can read about in what Hexapeptide-11 does, and retinol sits on the faster, harsher end, compared directly in peptides vs retinol. Both work on skin cell turnover time, so both need two to three months before a verdict.
The order to do this in
Fix the basics first. Adding an active to a dehydrated, over cleansed face is how people conclude that nothing works. Our four step AM and PM routine is deliberately built in that order.
The hydration and support step is the Peptide Anti-Aging Serum, and the sealing step is the Peptide Ageless AM/PM Cream.

[…] Hydration is visible in days. Firmness and fine lines run on skin cell turnover, so judge the routine at the eight to twelve week mark, not at two weeks. Take a photo in the same light on day one so you have something honest to compare against, because daily change is invisible in the mirror. If the issue is dullness rather than lines, this covers what actually helps. […]

We would rather you checked that against the ingredient list than took our word for it. If dullness or dehydration is what brought you here, this is the more useful read. […]
